This is not a surprise.

The MLB announced the highest-selling jerseys for the first half of the 2023 season, and it was no surprise that Angels two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani was among them.

Ohtani was the second-highest selling jersey and highest in the American League, only trailing Braves superstar and leading NL MVP candidate, Ronald Acuna Jr., for the top spot.

Over the offseason, ESPN's Alden Gonzalez wrote an article where he spoke about how much revenue Ohtani generates every year. While there was no exact value, it was said to be in the low tens of millions of dollars per season.

Obviously, there are tons of reasons that Ohtani generates that much money, but one of them, of course, is his top-selling jersey.

Ohtani is coming off one of the best first halves in MLB history, where he went 7-4 with a 3.32 ERA and hit a league-leading 32 home runs, six triples, .663 slugging percentage and 1.050 OPS.

He's very quickly becoming the perennial MVP favorite in the American League, and is having his best year yet just ahead of his impending free agency.

This week, Ohtani is in Seattle for the All-Star Game, where all the talk will be about his impending free agency and potential trade deadline move. But he'll just be focused on putting on another show for the MLB fans in Seattle, where they will definitely be tons of his jerseys in the crowd — likely Angels ones and custom Ohtani jerseys for other teams.
