In this story:

Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani left Wednesday's first game of the doubleheader on the mound with apparent injury.

Ohtani is still eligible to hit in the game, but he was taken out as a pitcher and left the field with trainers.

Ohtani was through 1.1 no-hit innings, and had already hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, his 44th of the season.

Now, however, he's out of the game, and the Angels turned to LHP Tyler Anderson to try to maintain the Angels' 2-0 lead the rest of the way with the second game of the doubleheader set for 6:38 p.m. PT.

The Angels are off on Thursday, so they'll hope Anderson can take a majority of this game so the bullpen can take a majority of the night game.

We don't have any more information on the injury yet, but we'll continue to update you on Ohtani's status when we learn more.

UPDATE:

Shohei Ohtani was replaced at designated hitter by rookie first baseman Nolan Schanuel. So Ohtani is completely out of Wednesday's game, both as a pitcher and hitter.

The Angels announced that he left the game with "arm fatigue."
