After all the speculation, Shohei Ohtani will remain with the Los Angeles Angels for the remainder of the season. With the Angels gaining ground in the American League wild-card standings, the team decided it was the best decision to make a run for the postseason.

Just a few hours after it was announced that Ohtani was off the trade block, the Angels made a splash and traded for White Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito. Giolito was one of the best available pitchers on the trade block this deadline, and Los Angeles swooped in to get him.

Now Giolito and Ohtani form a strong duo at the top of the Angels rotation. And despite all the talk for the last few weeks, Ohtani wanted to stay with the organization for the rest of this season.

"Sources have said Ohtani would prefer to stay with the Angels for the stretch run and that Moreno would have no shot to bring him back as a free agent if he were to trade Ohtani to another team."

Per ESPN.com

Not trading Ohtani also allows the Angels the chance to try to re-sign him this offseason. They will have a good shot if they can get into the postseason, showing Ohtani that they want to win just as badly as he does. Owner Arte Moreno will make Ohtani his priority this winter.

"Moreno, who has declined to both trade Ohtani and sell the franchise over the past year, is expected to make a run at re-signing him in the offseason"

Per ESPN.com

For now, Ohtani is an Angel. It remains to be seen for how long. The team will have him the rest of the way, and they can now focus on trying to get to the playoffs for the first time since 2014. Ohtani will be a major part of that, and everyone associated with the Angels can take a deep breath.
