In this story:

After taking a start off due to some lingering fatigue, the Angels seem to have picked the date for two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani to return to the mound.

The team seems to be targeting a return for Ohtani against the Cincinnati Reds next week at home. The superstar told manager Phil Nevin that he would only have to miss one start due to arm fatigue.

“The Angels haven’t set Shohei Ohtani’s next start, but they have narrowed it down to Tuesday or Wednesday at home against the Cincinnati Reds next week. Ohtani skipped his start this week because of arm fatigue. He told Nevin he just needs to miss one start. …”

Per The OC Register

Nothing is set in stone, but this is a good sign. It means that Ohtani should return soon, and the Angels desperately need him out there.

He has continued to hit while missing his start, but getting his entire skillset back is huge for this team. They are reeling right now and need anything to help stop the bleeding.

On the year, Ohtani holds a 10-5 record with a 3.17 ERA. He has been special of late on the mound, not allowing a run over his last three starts.

As the Angels continue to try to make a last-ditch effort toward the postseason, getting Ohtani right is key. Without him, they aren’t doing anything the rest of the way, so it’s crucial to make sure that he is ready to go.

He is also scheduled to be a free agent this winter, so he probably wants to make sure that he is alright as well. This likely also plays a factor in his want to get back as soon as he possibly can.

The Angels have some work to do if they want to get back into contention. And right now, things do look pretty bleak on the playoff front for them.
