Angels News: The Great Front Office Rebuild Continues with Another Big Hire
The Angels are continuing a bit of a front office shake-up this offseason as the club refocuses on building up its player development department. According to MLB insider Britt Ghiroli, the Halos have brought back Dom Chiti who will be hired as the new minor league pitching coordinator.
Chiti held various roles with the Angels during a three season run from 2020-2022. He left to join the Mets as the bullpen coach ahead of the 2023 season but after one season the New York ballclub is changing up things with their coaching staff.
The 64-year-old Chiti has been an MLB coach since 1982, bringing ample experience back to the Halos.
Former big league pitcher Buddy Carlyle was the minor league pitching coordinator last season but was reportedly reassigned in September. At this time, it's unclear if he will remain with the club in some role.
Earlier in October, the club also parted ways with assistant GM Alex Tamin as well as pitching performance coordinator Dylan Axelrod, who spent four seasons as part of the front office.
The Angels still need to hire a manager and assemble a field staff to work under that manager. Beyond that, team owner Arte Moreno also must decide if he wants to bring aboard another decision-maker to work alongside Perry Minasian going forward.
After a disappointing 73-89 season, a bunch of work remains for the Angels this long offseason.
