Angels News: Tim Anderson Reflects on Best Pitching Performance Yet
The Los Angeles Angels dropped their 13th game of the season last night against the Milwaukee Brewers. LA's offesne didn't hold up their end of the bargain as they could only record one run on nine hits, but their starting pitcher, Tyler Anderson, certainly did.
It's been a rough start to the season for the southpaw, but he told OC Register's Jeff Fletcher that he felt excellent on the mound on Friday night.
“I feel like I tried to kind of feel for guys’ game plans as the game goes on,” Anderson said. “Then when you get in that situation, you just don’t give in. I start feeling better, executing better, going in the right direction.”
Anderson is certainly heading in the right direction. This was his best start of the season, and it came in his fifth start. The 33-year-old came in with a 7.20 ERA and dipped it drastically to 5.74. He looked good, and even though it came in a team loss and no decision for Anderson, manager Phil Nevin really liked what he saw.
“For sure that was his best one,” Nevin said. “Other than the pitch to Willie (Adames) in the first first inning (a home run). He was really good. … Located very well. The changeup was really good. Kind of added a couple ticks of velocity when he needed it. I thought he was really good.”
Anderson was phenomenal; he went a season-high 6.2 innings on 109 pitched, struck out seven batters, and only allowed five hits, one earned run, and three walks. The one-time All-Star signed with the Halos this past winter in hopes of these types of performances. If Anderson can keep this up, the Halos rotation will be one to look out for.
