Angels News: Two Halos Among Early Betting Favorites to Win AL MVP Award
The Angels definitely don't lack talent. They may have not played postseason baseball since 2014, but they've had their fair share of superstars don the Angel red. Mike Trout has won three MVPs in his career, most recently in 2019. And Shohei Ohtani was named the 19th unanimous MVP in MLB history in 2021, and finished as the runner-up last season.
Both players are entering 2023 fully healthy, hoping to have big years for the Halos, who, as a team, will be hoping to finally put it all together.
Heading into the 2023 season, oddsmakers see the Halos' superstars among the favorites to win the American League MVP Award this season. Ohtani is the favorite at +200, while Trout has the third-best odds, behind Ohtani and Aaron Judge, at +650, per Bet MGM.
Both players had extraordinary seasons last year — Ohtani had one of the greatest and most historic seasons in MLB history, while Trout became just the sixth player in MLB history to hit 40 or more home runs in 120 or fewer games.
Both players should continue to dominate this season, especially Ohtani, who's entering a contract year.
If the Angels want any chance of making the postseason in 2023, they're going to need their stars to lead the way. Expect Trout and Ohtani to be in the conversation all year long.
