Angels Notes: Mickey Moniak Injured, Halos Fire Sale, Injury May Help Chances at Keeping Shohei Ohtani
It was a rough afternoon for the Los Angeles Angels in the City of Brotherly Love, and a six-run 6th inning -- punctuated by three Phillies home runs -- spelled doom for the Halos in a 12-7 defeat.
It was even worse when OF Mickey Moniak left the game early, but fortunately, he's just dealing with some back soreness.
But none of that was the biggest news of the day.
The Angels started a fire sale on Tuesday, waiving multiple key players including starting pitcher Lucas Giolito. The move comes amidst a 7-19 stretch for the Angels in August, a rough patch that essentially put the team out of realistic playoff contention. That said, it isn't all bad. Shohei Ohtani's recent UCL tear could help the Angels chances at keeping the superstar this offseason, according to an executive.
