The Los Angeles Angels pretty much had two big labels surrounding them by the MLB world heading into the 2023 season.

50% of opposing fans believed that they would be a dumpster fire and that Shohei Ohtani would be demanding a trade before we could even blink our eyes. The other 50% predicted that everything would come together immediately and the MVP-level play from Ohtani and Mike Trout mixed with the various skills of the rest of the team would lead to them looking like contenders.

Then you have the actual fanbase who have been down both roads before and knew that there would be growing pains but also very much saw the potential of this roster following some offseason moves. Logan O'Hoppe, Brandon Drury, and others have been thrust into the lineup and have succeeded.

On the other hand, they've also had some clear negatives such as performances from bullpen. Multiple leads have been squandered, one being as high as six runs, and the Halos have a bigger loss column because of that.

Nonetheless, team manager Phil Nevin is remaining optimistic through it all and believes that the roster he's constructed is coming together under one roof.

"Right now, we're playing okay baseball," said Nevin. "We've had some ups and downs, we're .500. We just got done playing what I consider two of the best teams in the league in Seattle and Toronto. We lost a tough one last night but we got a great group. One thing I'm really proud of is the way that room is, we brought in some really quality character guys and individuals. You can just sense in that room, there's something special in there." (Via Foul Territory)

The Angels certainly have show promise in their wins that they can be a successful team in 2023. Their batters have consistently gotten on base in those games and the pitching staff as a whole works together. However, it's important they continue to do so in order to fulfill that potential.
