Once again, the Los Angeles Angels find themselves having missed the playoffs, and their long drought continues. The team hasn’t reached the postseason since 2014, and there is no sign of anything changing soon.

It has been a very disappointing decade for the Halos, and things could be getting even worse this offseason. Two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani is expected by many in the industry to leave the team this winter in hopes of joining a team he feels that he can consistently win with.

And now, the Angels will also be on the lookout for a new manager this offseason as well. They parted ways with manager Phil Nevin after the down year and will have to try to sell their vision of a non-rebuilding team to a new manager.

The MLB staff for The Athletic ranked the current openings around baseball, and the Angels came in last place among the four managerial openings.

“Arte Moreno is looking for his fourth manager since Mike Scioscia stepped down in 2018. Moreno is neither renowned for his patience nor his largesse. The roster is a bit of a wreck, with

Shohei Ohtani

entering free agency.

Mike Trout

has averaged 79 games a year since 2021. There are only 30 of these jobs, though.”

Per Andy McCullough of The Athletic

For a team that resides in Southern California, they have turned themselves into the furthest thing from a destination spot. The way the organization has run over the years has given them a bad rap, and their lack of winning on the field hasn’t helped anything.

“For the readers at home: The prompt we were given by editors requested that we provide an explanation in 50 words or less. I’d argue that no explanation is needed for this particular team. Experienced managers won’t be knocking down GM Perry Minasian’s door for this job.”

Per Sam Blum of The Athletic

This offseason is going to be a very interesting one for the Halos, as it could see some major turnover across the organization. They need to start thinking about how to build for the future, otherwise, they will be stuck in mediocrity for the next decade as well.
