Angels Reportedly Have Shown Interest In Gold Glove Award Winner To Bolster Outfield Depth
The Los Angeles Angels could end up making another addition or two before Opening Day rolls around.
There isn't much time before the 2024 season kicks off, but the Angels do still have holes on the roster. The outfield is one area that the Angels could still use some more work and one player the club reportedly has pursued is Gold Glove Award winner Michael A. Taylor, according to MLB Trade Rumors' Anthony Franco.
"At points this offseason, Taylor has drawn reported interest from the (Boston Red Sox), (Los Angeles Dodgers), (San Diego Padres), Angels, (Pittsburgh Pirates), (Cincinnati Reds), (Toronto Blue Jays), and the incumbent (Minnesota Twins)," Franco said. "A handful of those teams instead addressed the outfield in other ways. The Dodgers brought back Enrique Hernández. That signing was in conjunction with a trade shipping Manuel Margot to Minnesota, essentially ending the chance of Taylor returning to the Twin Cities. Toronto retained (Kevin Kiermaier) to play center field.
"The Red Sox, Reds, Pirates, and Angels could still benefit from a right-handed complement to their projected starting outfield. They’d probably all view Taylor as more of a fourth outfielder than an everyday center fielder, however."
Taylor has been linked to a handful of teams and although there has been plenty of interest in him, he remains available at this point in the spring. The veteran outfielder has seen time in all three outfield positions throughout his career but has spent the most time in center field.
Los Angeles still has plenty of money to spend and Taylor could make some sense. He had a career-high 21 home runs last season to go along with 51 RBIs in 129 games played.
