Angels Rumors: 9 Possible Pitching Coach Replacement Identified
The Halos are in search of a new pitching coach after Matt Wise has moved on to be the White Sox's new bullpen coach.
Now, the Angels will possibly be looking at some of these names to fill the position.
The Halos saw a big hit to the team's pitching in 2023.
After finishing as the 6th best team in baseball for earned runs allowed in 2022, the Halos finished with a 4.63 team ERA in 2023 which is the 23rd in the MLB.
Pitchers like Reid Detmers, Patrick Sandoval, and Shohei Ohtani all regressed from their pitching stats in 2022.
Newcomer Tyler Anderson tossed 178.2 innings with a 2.57 ERA and a 4.2 WAR in 2022 with the Dodgers. In his first year with the Halos, Anderson ended with 141 innings pitched, a 5.43 ERA, and a 0.2 WAR.
Pitching was one of the biggest problems this season for the Angels, besides the injuries, so the new pitching coach will have a pretty low bar to clear for 2024.
Obviously whoever is hired as the new manager will most likely have a say on the other coaching staff positions that need to be hired but the team will most likely be targeting one of the names from the successful pitching teams in 2023.
Both Rick Knapp and Jorge Moncada are with the Tampa Bay Rays and that team has a serious track record of pitching development as well as re-tooling and tweaking veterans that come into the clubhouse.
The biggest ticket on the Angels' offseason is resigning Shohei Ohtani and finding a new manager, but up there in rank of importance is who will be coaching these young pitchers with tons of potential.
