As the offseason gets started for the Angels, we are going to see more and more teams being linked to two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani. Ohtani is widely expected to leave the Halos organization this winter in search of a team that he believes better suits his winning needs.

The Angels haven’t reached the postseason since 2014, and Ohtani has seemingly been frustrated with their lack of success. He could remain with the Angels, but it’s more likely that he will take his talents elsewhere this winter.

Teams like the Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Dodgers and others have been linked to Ohtani, but one MLB insider is reporting that another American League club is a legitimate threat to sign him. Jon Heyman of The New York Post is saying that the Boston Red Sox have a strong interest in Ohtani and could land him this offseason.

“Shohei Ohtani and the Red Sox are starting to be linked more and more. One executive with an interested team said he believes they are a real threat.”

Per Jon Heyman of The NY Post

This is interesting but does make some sense. Boston needs to sign a superstar, and Ohtani would be just that for them.

“Ohtani has a new big deal with New Balance out of Boston. Perhaps more important: The Red Sox need to balance things out after three last-place finishes in four years.”

Per Jon Heyman of The NY Post

The only issue here is that while the Red Sox have won a World Series in the last 10 years, they also have been great the last few years. So, unless Ohtani believes that he is the missing piece, it wouldn't make a ton of sense to sign in Boston.

This certainly would throw a wrench into the MLB offseason, but you can’t discount anything from happening. It’ll be a very interesting winter for the Angels, and everything revolves around Ohtani for them.
