For as long as he has been in the league, Los Angeles Angels star outfielder Mike Trout has been atop the baseball world. He has been arguably the best player on the planet for quite some time, but injuries have taken their toll.

He has won multiple MVP awards and sees more individual success than most players ever do. But the one thing missing from his resume is postseason success. He has only played in three postseason games in his career, which was back in 2014.

The Angels organization hasn’t reached the playoffs since then, and it has been a long, grueling stretch for them. Now entering another offseason without the playoffs, there has been more talk than ever about Trout possibly asking out of the franchise.

However, it’s being reported that a trade is unlikely, and the team has seen no indication that Trout even wants out.

“More importantly, folks around the team have seen no indication he wants to go anywhere. Perhaps that could change if he’s convinced the Angels have no chance in the immediate future.”

Per Jon Heyman of The NY Post

It may be tough for Trout to even think about leaving the Angels, since he has spent his entire career with them. But at some point, he may decide enough is enough, and it could be this winter.

His running mate, Shohei Ohtani, is expected to leave the team this offseason as a free agent, so Trout could lose the only star player surrounding him. That would be a tough blow to his chances for on-field success in Anaheim.

Even if he were to ask out, it could be difficult to move him. He is still owed a ton of money over the next seven years, so only certain teams would be able to afford his salary.

"With Trout still having seven years left, at $35.45 million per year, one rival said: “The Angels would have to pay it down. One other possibility: an exchange of big contracts.”"

Per Jon Heyman of The NY Post

This is going to be a very intriguing winter for the Angels and certainly will be one of the most heavily watched in baseball. The entire baseball world will be keeping tabs on how things shake out with both Ohtani and Trout.
