Angels Rumors: Insider Says Halos Have 'Been in Touch' With Five Top Free Agents on the Market
The Angels remain among the most active teams on the market right now, still looking to fill at least three positions. The Angels could theoretically add a sixth starting pitcher, a bullpen piece, a catcher and a shortstop before Opening Day. They could fill all of those roles or none of them, but it does sound like they're working the phones to add some talent.
MLB insider Jon Heyman, who has praised the Angels all offseason long for their smart spending, reported that they've been in touch with at least five of the top free agents on the market — Gary Sanchez, Zack Britton, Andrew Chafin, Elvis Andrus and Michael Wacha.
"The Angels already had a boffo winter – Tyler Anderson at $40 million for three years and Carlos Estevez at $13.5 million for two years look like rare potential bargains in this market — and still have a little to spend. They’ve been in touch on Gary Sanchez, Zack Britton, Andrew Chafin, Elvis Andrus and Michael Wacha, among others."
The "among others" part of the sentence means they're talking with more players, as they look for the best value left on the market — something they've been exceptional at this offseason.
All five of these players could make a ton of sense for the Angels. We've written about all of them before, so feel free to take a look at why each player makes sense for the Halos by clicking on their names below.
It'll be interesting to see who the Angels pursue, but it does sound like it's unlikely the roster is finalized ahead of Opening Day — and that's great news for Angels fans.
