Angels Rumors: Writer Predicts Halos Lose Shohei Ohtani, Sign Top Pitcher on Market This Offseason
The Angels offseason is going to look very frantic with so many big names centered around the Halos, and so many questions to be answered. What will they do with Lucas Giolito? Are they going to get any more help? Will Shohei Ohtani be in an Angels uniform next year?
Well if you want the answer as to what might happen, look no further than Bleacher Report's "Way-Too-Early MLB Free Agency Predictions Post-2023 Trade Deadline."
There's some interesting hypothetical moves being made that involve the Halos, and one that many people, not just those at Bleacher Report, see as a very likely possibility.
Move #1 - Lucas Giolito to Boston
The first move has newly-acquired Halos starter Lucas Giolito going to the Red Sox.
They slotted him in as a proverbial number 2 starter behind their young star Brayan Bello, and honestly that might not be too bad of a gig for the 29 year-old. He'd get to sit back and play the role of mentor for a bright young star, while also being able to produce at a very steady rate.
If the Angels don't make a move to keep him, I'd love to see him in Boston.
Move #2 - The Angels add Blake Snell
This move has one of the best arms in the NL staying in Southern California, but moving just a little north.
Blake Snell has been about as lights out as they come when it pertains to missing bats. He has a 2.61 ERA so far this season, but the free pass has still haunted him. If the Angels ultimately lose Shohei Ohtani, look for them to make a move on either Snell or Giolito.
Move #3 - Shohei Ohtani goes to the Dodgers
I mean, this move has been speculated as far back as last offseason. The hypothetical trades between the two teams might not have to happen, but one thing's for sure, there's going to be a lot of money involved. Here's what Bleacher Report thinks the contract might look like:
Contract:
11 Years, $550 Million

There's no doubt in my mind that Shohei will be the first $50 million per year contract, and quite frankly, I think he might cost more than that. But if any team can pull off a Shohei Ohtani deal, it's the Dodgers.
They have a lot of expiring contracts after this season, and they structured their roster in a way to make as much of a push at Ohtani as needed.
How many moves do you think the Halos will make this offseason?
