Angels Sign All-Star Third Baseman on Minor League Deal: Report
The Los Angeles Angels have reportedly signed former All-Star third baseman Miguel Sanó to a minor league deal, per Enrique Rojas of ESPN.
Sanó, 30, is just three years removed from a 2021 season in which he hit 30 home runs and drove in 75 runs batted in.
Sanó last played in 2022, but tore his meniscus in May and hasn't played in the majors since.
Sanó did appear in the Dominican Winter League this offseason, and hit .225 with two home runs and 13 runs batted in.
Sanó began his career in 2015 with the Minnesota Twins, and has spent his entire eight-year career in the Twin Cities.
He has a career slash line of .234/.326/.482 with 162 home runs and 418 runs batted in. He's had five seasons with at least 18 home runs, and could provide a spark to the Angels' lineup if given the opportunity.
For now, he's joining the team on a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training. However, he has tons of upside, and could easily make an impact on the Halos for the 2024 season.
This is a low-risk, high-reward move for the Angels.
