Report: Angels, Adam Cimber Agree on One-Year Deal
The Los Angeles Angels have agreed on a one-year deal with right-handed reliever Adam Cimber worth $1.65 million. ESPN's Jeff Passan reported the news.
This move comes one day after the Angels agreed with RHP Luis Garcia on a one-year deal, as the Halos are clearly emphasizing fixing the bullpen for 2024.
Cimber was nontendered by the Toronto Blue Jays heading into the offseason, but didn't take long to find a new home. He'll now reportedly head to Anaheim, where he'll work with Garcia to improve upon a bullpen that was tied for fifth-worst in the entire majors last year with a 4.88 ERA.
Cimber had by far his worst year as a pro in 2023, sporting a 7.40 ERA in 22 appearances. However, he's one year removed from a dominant 2022 season in which he made 77 appearances, and had a 2.80 ERA in 70.2 innings pitched.
The Angels will be hoping for that version of Cimber, who is 33 years old and entering his seventh year in the league.
Cimber began his career in 2018 with the San Diego Padres, before heading to Cleveland until 2021. He was then with the Miami Marlins and Blue Jays, and will now call Anaheim home when the deal is finalized.
Cimber has a very funky delivery, with his average release point being about two feet off the ground, per Statcast.
This greatly differs from some of the Angels' power-arms, such as All-Star closer Carlos Estevez and hard-throwing top prospect Ben Joyce.
The Angels will hope Cimber can overcome his 2023 shoulder injury, and turn into a steal of an acquisition at $1.65 million.
