Angels Sign Reliever Luis Garcia to One-Year Deal
The Los Angeles Angels have made their first real move of the offseason, signing reliever Luis Garcia to a one-year, $4.25 million deal. USA Today insider Bob Nightengale reported the news.
Garcia spent the last two seasons with the San Diego Padres, sporting a 4.07 ERA in 61 appearances with San Diego in 2023.
The longtime veteran reliever began his career back in 2013 with the Philadelphia Phillies. He was in Philly until 2018, and then spent the 2019 season with the Halos.
In 2020, Garcia was with the Texas Rangers, and in 2021, he was with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Now, after a two-year stint with San Diego, Garcia is returning to Anaheim.
Garcia has a career 4.05 ERA in 11 seasons, and had his best year in 2017 with the Phillies when he had a 2.65 ERA in 66 appearances.
Garcia had a solid 2022 season, sporting a 3.39 ERA in 64 appearances with San Diego.
The Angels' bullpen struggled mightily in 2023, so expect Garcia to add some much-needed consistency in 2024.
He likely won't be the only bullpen-centric move for the Halos this offseason, but it's a great start to revamping a staff that had a 4.88 ERA in 2023, tied for fifth-worst in the entire league.
Welcome back to Anaheim, Luis!
