Angels Sign Veteran Reliever, Former Halo to Minor League Deal
The Los Angeles Angels have signed right-handed pitcher Hunter Strickland to a minor league deal with a non-roster invitation to Major League camp. The team made the announcement on social media on Friday. This move brings the roster at spring training to 69 players.
Strickland, 35, hasn't pitched in the Majors since 2022 with the Cincinnati Reds. He pitched in the Reds' organization in Triple-A in 2023, but was released from the roster in May.
In 2022, Strickland had a 4.91 ERA in 66 appearances. In 2021, he had a combined 2.61 ERA across three teams — the Tampa Bay Rays, Milwaukee Brewers and Angels.
Strickland's career began back in 2014 with the San Francisco Giants. He's also spent time with the Seattle Mariners, Washington Nationals and New York Mets.
Strickland has made 408 appearances — all as a reliever — across his nine-year career. He has a career ERA of 3.41 in 374.2 innings with 351 strikeouts.
The Angels have focused on bolstering their bullpen all offseason long. Strickland will likely compete with the likes of former All-Star Drew Pomeranz for a spot on the Opening Day roster.
