Worst possible start to the season for Suarez

In this story:

It is wild to think that Jose Suarez became a member within the Angels organization when he was just 16-years-old. Back in 2019 after some seasons in the minor leagues, he started getting some actual run in the big league roster and they viewed him as someone who could eventually become a key piece of the starting rotation.

Therefore, these first four starts should not be reason to just give up on Suarez but they definitely do raise some question marks about potentially limiting his role within the squad. Monday night's performance from him that led to the Angels eventually losing 10-11 was the cherry on top.

Suarez Joined Exclusive Company Last Night

LA's fanbase was in shambles watching Suarez fall apart at the pitching mound yet again. His three starts prior to this were rough as well but many thought he would finally bounced against an A's team that was barely looking for their fifth win of the season.

The 25-year-old LHP unfortunately made history last night and, you guessed it, it wasn't in the way that any MLB player wants to do so. He gave up home runs in a way that only two other Angels players had done so before.

"In 16-2/3 innings, Suarez has allowed 29 hits and nine walks. This performance was against a team off to a historically bad start. Suarez is the third pitcher in Angels history to allow five homers in a game, and the first to do so in a span of three innings."

What Is Next For Suarez?

Phil Nevin has already made it clear that nothing is guaranteed moving forward and they'll have conversations about whether or not Suarez will remain in the rotation.

It sucks that the Angels do not have the luxury of being able to experiment due to their current record but a solution will be needed as soon as possible.
