Angels Still Seen As Possibility To Land Superstar Pitcher, Cy Young Award Winner
The Los Angeles Angels still have plenty of money to spend and it would make sense to do so before Opening Day.
Los Angeles' starting rotation still needs another frontline starter if the club wants to have any chance to compete for an American League Wild Card spot. Both Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery still are available and would make sense for Los Angeles.
The Angels have been linked to both hurlers, but Snell has popped up more in rumors lately.
While there has been some speculation otherwise, the Angels still are viewed as a possible landing spot for either hurler, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.
"We have to also mention the Los Angeles Angels being a possibility," Morosi said. "We have to go back to the comments made by Mike Trout earlier this spring about wanting to add one more starting pitcher. So perhaps we see Snell or (Jordan Montgomery) go to Orange County."
Landing Snell or Montgomery could go a long way for Los Angeles. Because Opening Day is right around the corner, Los Angeles likely could sign either at somewhat of a discount. Both were looking for massive deals but it's clear they will not be getting what they hoped for barring a last-second change in the market.
The Angels' rotation needs some serious work and next year's free agency class doesn't seem like it will be very strong. If Los Angeles is serious about improving the club, it should act quickly and offer a deal to Snell or Montgomery before they sign elsewhere.
