Angels Top Prospect Enters MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 List
After a short period of time where the Halos didn't have any prospects crack MLB's top 100 list, the Angels finally have a representative on the board.
In the latest update of MLB Pipeline's Top 100 Prospect list, Angels' first-round pick Nolan Schanuel narrowly found himself in the top 100.
Schanuel is the 100th-ranked prospect according to the MLB pipeline. He is the first Angels player to make the list since Logan O'Hoppe lost his eligibility.
The Halos first baseman made history earlier this season as he made his debut just two months after being drafted. He is the first-position player in the past 10 years to do this.
Just three months ago, Schanuel was playing at Florida Atlantic University. Now he is playing alongside Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani.
Even though he is new to professional baseball, Schanuel is holding his own with the Angels.
He is hitting .283 in 16 games. Although he hasn't driven in any runs, he's been a monster at getting on base from the leadoff spot.
Currently, Schanuel has a .427 on-base percentage, and that has turned into him scoring 13 runs in the majors.
Before being called up to Los Angeles, Schaneul was hitting .363 in 22 career minor league games across three levels. He only played 5 games in rookie ball and Single-A combined.
The Angels are getting a look at their future now as the team does not have much first baseman depth following this year.
Schanuel's time on the top prospect list may be short-lived as it is looking like he will make the major league roster out of spring training next year.
