Angels Undefeated When Mike Trout Or Shohei Ohtani Don't Play in 2023
Shohei Ohtani has been a member of the Los Angeles Angels since 2018 and he's been able to share the field with Mike Trout in each of those seasons, though some less than others. Trout is notoriously known for being one of the more injury-prone superstars we've seen in recent history.
When you add that to the fact that the Angels' front office decisions have been questionable over the past seasons, they have not been able to put together a roster that holds a lot of depth in that time. Despite Ohtani clearly solidifying himself as a top player in the MLB, he has not sniffed the playoffs yet.
With that being said, LA looks to have to a whole new culture this season. Phil Nevin is manning the throne at the general manager position for the first time, their cap space was spread out over numerous contributors during the offseason, and their superstars are actually getting some rest.
In the five games this season when either Mike Trout or Shohei Ohtani have been granted a day off, they have been able to still win every single one of those. The big consensus around the MLB is that the rest of the Angels' roster cannot hang without big outings from their stars.
However, this shows that guys like Gio Urshela, Taylor Ward, and Jake Lamb among others have proven to be capable of willing the squad to wins. Some elite pitching from Reid Detmers and Patrick Sandoval have also played a key role in these matches.
