Since his arrival with the Angels back in 2020, the Anthony Rendon experience has been anything but fun for the organization. They shelled out a ton of money to land him, thinking that he could be the missing piece to the puzzle.

But the only thing missing since he joined the Halos has been himself.

Rendon hasn’t played more than 58 games in a season due to different injuries, and it has hurt the team.

Once again, he finds himself facing the possibility of ending a season injured, with the team set to miss the postseason.

Now, the Halos issues aren’t all on Rendon, but he hasn’t helped things.

They still owe him a lot of money over the next three seasons but could look to release him this offseason. In fact, it could be the smart play, even if it hits their payroll hard.

One baseball writer seems to be in favor of this idea. Bob Nightengale of USA Today has suggested that the Angels cut ties with Rendon to avoid any future issues that could arise.

“Rendon, who received a seven-year, $245 million contract with the Angels, will have missed 338 games in the past three full seasons if he doesn’t return this year. That’s $71.5 million paid for games that Rendon has not played. The Angels could simply release him.”

Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today

This season, Rendon was hoping things would be different. But it’s been more of the same for the infielder.

He has only played in 43 games, hitting .236 with two home runs and 22 runs batted in. It’s almost like he hasn’t been there at all, but the Angels are paying him like a superstar.

It’s probably very frustrating for Rendon to consistently be injured rather than being out there with his guys. It’s not his fault that he keeps getting hurt, but it’s affecting the team.

They shaped this roster around the belief he would be there, and whether it's his fault or not, he hasn’t been. The Angels have some tough decisions to make this offseason, starting with Rendon.
