Blake Snell Rumors: Where Things Stand for the Angels
One of the more consistent names that has been associated with the Los Angeles Angels this offseason has been starting pitcher Blake Snell. Snell is the reigning Cy Young winner for the National League and is looking to cash in on the open market.
Snell could easily provide the Angels with a clear-cut front-of-the-line option in their starting rotation. However, things aren't that simple when it comes to signing him for the Halos.
Historically, the Angels have been against signing free-agent pitchers to long-term contracts. It seems that owner Arte Moreno may be holding up any sort of deal between the two sides.
The New York Post's Jon Heyman has reported that the Angels "like" Snell, and they remain in contact with him. But Moreno has the final say in any major deal being finalized.
It's been reported by USA Today's Bob Nightengale that Snell is looking for a deal worth well over $200 million. He reportedly down a contract offer from the New York Yankees for six years worth $150 million. Nightengale reported that Snell originally requested $270 million over nine years.
Heyman also recently said that Snell is "waiting patiently" for a deal. He wants the contract that he believes is of value for his performance and will wait around to get it.
At some point, Snell may need to lower his asking price. The season will be starting soon, but we've seen players hold firm in the past.
The Angels are certainly very interested in landing the two-time Cy Young winner, but only at a price that is comfortable for them.
