Former Angels Reliever Announces Retirement After 15-Year Career
Longtime MLB reliever Darren O'Day has officially announced his retirement from the game of baseball. He spent 15 years in the MLB, and played for six teams. His first team, however, was none other than the Angels.
On Monday, O'Day took to Twitter to announce his retirement. Here's his full message. It's worth a read:
O'Day was an undrafted free agent who signed with the Angels in 2006. By 2008, he was already in the big leagues. He made his MLB debut with the Halos on March 31 of the 2008 season, pitching one shutout inning against Minnesota.
O'Day then spent the rest of the 2008 season with the Halos, appearing in 30 games and allowing 22 earned runs.
O'Day would then go on to play for the New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees. Last year, he was back with the Braves to finish his season.
The 40-year-old is officially done playing baseball, but not after a very impressive career as a reliever. An All-Star in 2015, O'Day finishes his career with a 2.59 ERA and 637 strikeouts. Best of luck in retirement, Darren!
