As the Los Angeles Angels continue their search for a new manager, the team is being diligent in their plans. They want to make sure that they take their time to hire the correct person, so they won’t have to do this again pretty soon.

The Halos will be on their fifth manager since 2018 once they do hire someone, and the team wants to find some stability in the position. They don’t want to rush anything and are looking in all directions for the opening.

Recently a new name has emerged as a candidate for the Halos, and he brings plenty of experience to the table. That would be former Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington, who currently has been working as the third base coach for the Atlanta Braves.

Washington has been around for a long time, and he has seen major success in the league. The Angels are likely interested in his leadership skills, and how he could help this young team grow into a potential contender.

General Manager Perry Minasian explained why the Angels were interested in a guy like Washington, and the team has remained set on getting a more veteran manager.

“We all know how a manager can transform a team,” Minasian said. “We all saw it in Texas. A Hall of Fame manager goes there … to add a Bruce Bochy and see him walk through the door, and what he did for that club, it doesn’t go unnoticed. We’re looking for that type of presence.”

If Washington is hired by the Angels, he would be inheriting a team that could be in a transitional period, especially if two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani does leave the organization. The Halos haven’t made the playoffs since 2014, and they have a long climb back to the top in all likelihood.

But you have to give this team some credit for how they are handling the open managerial search since they are leaving no stone unturned. They need to get this hire right, otherwise, they could find themselves right back here doing the same thing.
