The dynamic duo that ran the Angels for years is no more. With Shohei Ohtani heading to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Halos are left short-handed.

Luckily, they still have star Mike Trout, who seems to be determined to finish his career with the franchise. Obviously, things can change, but Trout is as loyal as they come.

He recently opened up about his former running mate leaving for a different team. Trout mentioned that he wasn't surprised that Ohtani ended up leaving for the Dodgers.

Trout said he wasn’t surprised that Ohtani ended up with the Dodgers because “everyone said the Dodgers.” Asked if he knew before Ohtani became a free agent that he was leaving, Trout said “my gut feeling was he was leaving, but deep down there was a slight chance he was coming back. There wasn’t anything in particular where he was saying he was going to leave.”

Almost everyone believed that Ohtani was destined to become a member of the Dodgers, so when it finally happened, most weren't shocked. Trout would have loved Ohtani to stay with him on the Angels, but he understands why Ohtani left.

Now, the state of the franchise falls back on the shoulders of Trout, and he is ready to take that mantle. Trout wants to prove that he can win with the Halos, and fans love him for it.

Ohtani leaving does sting a little bit, but the team will survive. They've put together a decent offseason and are hopeful that they can be much more competitive this coming year.
