MLB Insider Thinks Shohei Ohtani Could Re-Sign With Angels This Offseason
Like everyone else, the Los Angeles Angels are patiently waiting to see where Shohei Ohtani signs this offseason. The two-way superstar is expected to leave the Angels this winter after the team failed to show him that they could field a winning team.
The one thing that the Angels have going for them is that Ohtani is very comfortable in the organization. He essentially does what he wants and he may not be willing to give that up.
On the open market, he has no shortage of suitors for his services, but nobody really knows what he wants. He doesn't speak to the media often, so other than him wanting to win, everyone is in the dark.
One MLB insider believes that his comfort may play a role in where he ultimately signs and that the Angels could still be a landing spot for the two-way superstar.
"I think he is going to value comfort," MLB insider Jon Heyman said. "I'm not ruling out the Angels, a return there."
While the entire baseball world has operated with the assumption that Ohtani will be leaving the Angels, the team has quietly been optimistic about his return. They know how valuable he is to their team, and they are trying to do whatever they can to get him to stay with them.
It may be a long shot, but Ohtani is a free agent unlike anyone we have ever seen. His two-way abilities make him a special player, but he will only be a hitter next season due to his recovery from a procedure to repair a torn UCL.
Maybe he decides to stay with the Angels while he rehabs the injury, so he signs a one-year deal. He then could re-enter the market next offseason ready to take the mound once again.
There are a ton of different scenarios that could happen, and hopefully, we can find out where he will be going soon. He is the biggest show in baseball, and a lot of other free-agent moves are all waiting for him to sign.
