Thursday was billed to be a waiver wire bonanza day after the Los Angeles Angels released multiple players earlier this week, and so far it's living up to that.

The Cleveland Guardians made three moves as they signed starter Lucas Giolito and relief pitchers Reynaldo Lopez and Matt Moore, and another playoff contender made their big acquisition as well.

The Cincinnati Reds signed former Angels left fielder Hunter Renfroe on Thursday in a bid to make what some felt was an unlikely push for the playoffs when the season started.

Renfroe slashed .242/.304/.434 with 19 home runs and 56 RBI for the Halos in 126 games this season, one that proved to be his first and only season in the Angels red and white.

Now he'll join a team with a different shade of red as Cincinnati tries to make the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

The Reds are just one game back of the third Wild Card spot in the National League, and they're led by a young but strong roster that includes rookie Elly De La Cruz and 2023 All-Star Matt McLain.

Bringing Renfroe in will help Cincinnati's lineup depth, something that should be pivotal for them as they try to overtake the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Francisco Giants for that final playoff spot.

And after what proved to be a disappointing five months in Anaheim given the Angels 64-70 record, the former Halos right fielder now has an opportunity to play October baseball after all.
