Ron Washington Reveals He's Trying to Bring Aboard Former Manager as Angels Bench Coach
The Los Angeles Angels hiring of veteran Ron Washington as their new manager has seen positivity shine down on the organization. Washington is loved across the league, and the team has been praised heavily for the signing.
He has put together a great staff so far to surround him, but he is still looking at adding someone to be his bench coach. During an appearance on MLB Network, Washington let it slip that he is trying to bring former manager Clint Hurdle aboard to take the position.
“I’m in the process of talking with Clint Hurdle to become my bench coach. There isn’t anything (that’s) been finalized on that yet.”

Hurdle has been out of the managing game since 2019 when he was let go by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has extensive experience as a manager leading the Colorado Rockies from 2002-2009 and then the Pirates from 2011-2019.
He came out of retirement in 2021 to rejoin the Rockies as a special assistant to the general manager and has been in the role since. Hurdle didn't want to be away from the game that he loved, so he stayed active, waiting for another chance.
If Washington could get Hurdle to come join the Angels, he would be adding more experience to the team. Washington has built himself a solid staff, and they should make his life easier.
The Angels are in the business of trying to compete next season, so getting a guy like Hurdle in there could be beneficial. He has seen success during his time as a manager and he knows how to win baseball games.
It remains to be seen if they will land Hurdle, but you can't fault Washington for trying. He is trying to make the Angels relevant again, and that should have the fanbase excited.
