Rumored Angels Managerial Candidate and Former Skipper Leading for Astros Job

The former Halos skipper is in the mix for the Astros manager role

Your Los Angeles Angels are in the process of looking for a new manager after parting ways with Phil Nevin after the 2023 season.

If the team stays intact, it will be a solid roster to coach, making it super enticing. However, the Halos aren't the only team looking for a new manager; they aren't even the only one in their division looking for a new manager.

The rival Houston Astros are also looking for a new manager after the retirement of baseball great Dusty Baker following their loss in the ALCS. They're currently running through a long list of names, one of which includes former Halos skipper Brad Ausmus.

Ausmus was the man at the helm for the Halos for the 2019 season after signing a three-year deal. However, he was fired after one season following a 72-90 record and missing the postseason for the fifth season in a row at the time.

The 54-year-old has a ton of experience as a player and coach. He spent 17 years in the league as a player, becoming an All-Star in 1999 and a three-time Gold Glove winner at catcher. As a manager, he spent three seasons at the helm in Detroit and one year in Los Angeles.

His record may not pop out the page, and maybe on paper, it doesn't seem like a proper fit, but with a team as talented as the Astros, they may want to go another direction in the eyes of the public.

We'll see how long it'll take for these teams to get their new manager and if the Astros will pull the trigger on the former Halo skipper.
