Shohei Ohtani Rumors: AL East Squad Not Expected to Be in Play on Former Angel
Free agent Shohei Ohtani is the talk of baseball free agency right now, and he will be until he officially signs somewhere. He is expected to leave the Angels this winter, but the team remains hopeful that he will have a change of heart to stay.
There will be no shortage of suitors for the two-way superstar, and he is expected to receive the largest contract in MLB history. However, it seems that one expected team interested in landing him may no longer be an option.
Boston Red Sox insider Alex Speier of The Boston Globe provided an update on the pursuit of the two-way superstar, and it seems that Boston may not be an option after all.
"Let’s get this out of the way: Boston looks like an unlikely landing spot for Ohtani."
Per Alex Speier of The Boston Globe
If the Red Sox aren’t a serious landing spot for Ohtani, it does open things up a little more for the other teams. Boston was expected to heavily pursue Ohtani this winter, but it seems that they may be looking at other means to upgrade their roster.
Teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers and others are still expected to be heavily involved in the bidding for Ohtani. He has expressed his desire to win at the highest level consistently, so the Angels remain an unlikely landing spot for him.
The team hasn't been able to show him that they can field a winning roster over the years, and it will probably see him walk out the door. Ohtani has meant so much to the Halos organization, but it feels like it's time for him to move on.
He has goals that he wants to reach before he retires, and the Angels don't seem like the place where he can achieve them. Hopefully, he can sign soon and we can all move on from all this talk.
