The Angels are by no means the favorite to sign Shohei Ohtani to a long-term extension next offseason, but they have to at least be up there, right?

While some insiders have pegged the Angels as one of the top landing spots for Ohtani this offseason, others have pretty much completely written them off.

The writers at Fox Sports were among the experts to predict some top landing spots for Ohtani next season. They made a list of five, and shockingly left the Angels off the list, altogether. The New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers came in at 1A and 1B, followed by the San Diego Padres, the New York Yankees and the San Francisco Giants.

Those are some big-spending teams, which makes sense, considering Ohtani could go for upwards of $500 million next offseason. The Angels have made it clear they want to bring him back, but they've never gone over the luxury tax threshold, and with Arte Moreno's decision to remain in control of the team, they may not do it next season, either.

All five of these teams have been linked as potential landing spots, some more than others. The Dodgers are the most talked about team, but the Mets have had their fair share of coverage, too. And we can't count out the high-spending Padres, Yankees and Giants.

Angels fans will hope that Moreno knew what he was getting into it when he decided to remain in charge of the team, and will at least attempt to re-sign Ohtani by going over the luxury tax. But you can't blame baseball experts for having their doubts.
