Shohei Ohtani Rumors: NL Team Expected to Make ‘Biggest Offer’ for Angels Superstar in Free Agency
Though we're sure the Angels will do everything in their respective power to bring back their superstar unicorn, Shohei Ohtani's talents may be headed elsewhere in the winter.
As an impending free agent, the Japanese superstar will have more than his fair share of choices when it comes to his next team, including one NL contender who hasn't been shy to spend the big bucks in recent seasons.
If the Japanese superstar is willing, every baseball person I spoke to fully expects that owner Steve Cohen would make the biggest offer, even if Ohtani won’t pitch in 2024 and even though the Mets have indicated they may not be all-in next season after their sell-off at the trade deadline.

Shelling out over $300 million dollars on Opening Day for 2023, Steve Cohen and his deep pockets will make Queens an attractive free agent destination for everyone including Ohtani.
Given the Angels' current situation, it'd make sense for the recent WBC MVP to take his talents to a new location and the Mets would be part of that definite equation considering another losing season for Anaheim.
With playoffs out of the question for another year and another losing record also clinched, the Halos have been the laughingstock of baseball for some time now considering the amount of talent they've had relative to results.
Questions with ownership, the front office and manager Phil Nevin have all been raised after another disappointing season at the Big A and Ohtani could also be on his way out, albeit on his own terms.
Pairing with Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso and other young pieces in the Big Apple, Ohtani's superstardom could grow on both sides of the ball, pairing also with Kodai Senga in the rotation to bring the Mets to prominence once more.
