The Angels Are Paying a High Price to Go All in This Season

Could it hurt them long term?

The Angels have invested a lot into winning a World Series this year, but could it have been too much?

They have Shohei Ohtani for the rest of this year, they know that for sure, but the team wants to win with him on the roster to show him that they can do it, and hopefully keep him around for the foreseeable future.

But is trading away ten of your top minor league pitchers really the answer of how to do it?

Honestly, probably not.

The Angels farm system is one of the worst in the league. Having those pitchers that they traded away would boost them up a lot more than almost near the bottom of the league.

How can they fix that?

One way they could've helped get more talent is to move off of one of their stars like Shohei Ohtani, or even Mike Trout before he signed that massive extension.

In all reality, the Angels are in a 'World Series or bust' season right now. If they traded away two of their top five prospects in order to get Lucas Giolito and then they miss the playoffs, it would be extremely disappointing.

But we'll see how it plays out over the second half of the season.

In a perfect world, the Angels would win the World Series, Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani would get their rings, and Shohei would stay with the Angels, but there's still a lot of season left to be played.

The Angels surprised a lot of people in the 2021 MLB Draft when they selected all pitchers, but slowly but surely they're starting to trade away those pitchers. Ky Bush, Landon Marceaux and Mason Albright, who were part of that draft class, have since been traded.
