Over the weekend, former Angels star Torii Hunter was linked to the Halos for the open managerial job. MLB insider Bob Nightengale said that Hunter had emerged as a candidate for the vacancy thanks in part to his relationship with club owner Arte Moreno.

Hunter fueled the speculation on social media after liking a post on X.com where a fan asked if would consider a job opening with the Angels.

Of course, this doesn't mean all that much in the grand scheme of things, but if "likes are king" in this modern era, maybe there's a little more smoke than meets the eye with this fire.

The Angels have been without a skipper since firing Phil Nevin at the end of the season. Perry Minasian is said to have interest in bringing veteran manager Buck Showalter to take the job, but Moreno might not be as bullish on 67-year-old.

In recent weeks, the Angels have been cleaning house, dismissing several staffers -- mostly on the pitching coach side of things -- as the club looks to rebound after another season of struggles.

The 48-year-old Hunter doesn't have any formal managerial or coaching experience since retiring after the 2015 season. But that hasn't stopped some teams from bringing former players aboard in big roles. One example, David Ross and the Chicago Cubs.
