Tucker Ejected From Houston Astros' Victory Over Twins
Kyle Tucker was ejected in the eighth inning of the Houston Astros’ 5-1 victory over the host Minnesota Twins on Sunday.
Tucker was ejected for arguing a baserunner interference call.
Tucker came up with the bases loaded and no outs and hit a ground ball to Twins second baseman Nick Gordon, who threw home to force out Alex Bregman.
Catcher Ryan Jeffers' throw to first base struck Tucker in the elbow as he landed on the bag. Home plate umpire Mark Carlson immediately called Tucker out and the Astros dugout complained in unison.
According to Major League Baseball rules, a baserunner must "stay within the three-foot runner's lane to the right of the foul line unless they are avoiding a player fielding a batted ball."
Replays showed Tucker outside the runner's lane, but running outside of it may have caused Tucker to miss the base. The play is not reviewable.
“I thought I was running in line with the bag and hitting it,” Tucker told reporters. “The bag is on the line in fair territory. I thought I was running toward the bag. I get if I was running, like, in the grass or something that would, in my opinion, be getting in the way. I thought I was running direct to the bag and the throw was in line with that.”
