Unlike Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman did not receive a contract extension from the Houston Astros this offseason. Unless both sides suddenly reach an agreement before Opening Day, Bregman is likely headed to free agency next winter.

Bregman knows this could be his last season with the Astros, and he wants to make the most of it. When he arrived at Spring Training on Sunday, he spoke about his offseason preparation and goals for 2024.

Players are normally optimistic this time of year, and Bregman is no different, already promising a career year.

"One of the best offseasons I've ever had. I feel incredible getting here," Bregman told reporters. "My body feels in incredible shape, my swing feels better than ever and I'm looking forward to a great, healthy season."

Bregman cited changes to his offseason workout regimen, which included training with All-Stars Xander Bogaerts and Matt Chapman at Exos gym in Phoenix. He also worked with Astros hitting coach Troy Snitker to fine-tune his swing.

Bregman said he's been letting his agent, Scott Boras, handle extension talks with Houston, allowing himself to focus on baseball and getting ready for the upcoming season.

Bregman, who turns 30 next month, is clearly motivated to go out and have a massive campaign before hitting free agency.

He hasn't made an All-Star team since 2019 and his offensive production has plateaued over the last few years, but perhaps his offseason preparation will help him recapture his MVP-caliber form from 2018-19.

If this does end up being Bregman's final season with the Astros, don't be surprised if he goes out with a bang.
