The Houston Astros won a big game Sunday night.

But they might have lost another key pitcher to an injury.

Already without Lance McCullers Jr., right-hander Jose Urquidy left after 5 1/3 innings with a right shoulder injury. The Astros defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-3, to salvage the series finale.

Manager Dusty Baker termed the injury right shoulder soreness.

Urquidy gave up solo home runs to J.T. Realmuto and Kody Clemens, but fared well in an 84-pitch effort.

Now the Astros must wait and hope.

“I felt a little bit of pain in the back of my shoulder,” Urquidy told reporters. “The last pitch, I was trying to throw a sinker there and I felt something a little bit weak in my shoulder and I decided to stop.”

In 2021, Urquidy was placed on the injured list twice with shoulder problems.

But he doesn’t believe that this latest ailment is related.

“Nothing like that,” he said. “I got a test and everything was OK. I have to wake up (today) and see how I feel.”

For the Astros, hopefully the news is bright after a checkup on Monday. It’s tough to lose pitchers – especially ones on the starting staff.

Stay tuned for further updates.
