The Houston Astros have fallen from the top-five teams to the number six team in baseball according to MLB.com's newest power rankings released on Monday morning.

How a team can fall a spot and fall out of the top-five after sweeping MLB.com's purported number two team the Atlanta Braves (top dog last week) is beyond us.

Since the last power rankings, the Astros have gone 5-1 against the Braves and the Toronto Blue Jays, both incredibly strong teams. Houston is also now two games over .500.

We already knew power rankings don't mean much and naturally they don't provide an explanation on the fall out of favor. But to see this happen is beyond explanation.

However, the Astros are playing better, they are finding consistency and most importantly they are showing fight in the face of adversity. All qualities that World Series contenders tend to possess.

They will have the opportunity to prove their mettle this week as they face the Tampa Bay Rays away from home before they host the Philadelphia Phillies at Minute Maid Park for a rematch of the 2022 World Series.
