Houston Astros Close To Breaking Ground On Entertainment Center Next To Ballpark
The Houston Astros are close to building a hotel and entertainment complex next to Minute Maid Park, according to Chandler France of the Houston Business Journal.
Astros owner Jim Crane said that the project would be similar to The Battery Atlanta in Atlanta and Ballpark Village in St. Louis.
“We’ve seen these entertainment areas in other cities work really well and it adds another dimension (to the ballpark),” Crane told the Houston Business Journal. “There’s really nothing down here like that, so I think it would be a big attraction for people to come down here even when there’s not a game.”
The development would include a high-end, four-star hotel. It would also include restaurants and an indoor tailgating area to be open year-round. In addition, it would include a walkway above the street, which would take people directly to the club level of the ballpark.
Crane said that the organization hopes to break ground on the project following the 2023 playoffs and it would take about three years to complete.
