Is the Houston Astros Center Field Job McCormick's to Lose?
Chas McCormick instantly endeared himself to the Houston Astros fans with his performance down the home stretch of the 2022 MLB season. Manager Dusty Baker entrusted him with the starting center field job for all 12 games during their postseason run.
Perhaps his most memorable moment was the catch at the wall in Game 5 of the World Series against his childhood team the Philadelphia Phillies. That played a crucial role in the Astros 3-2 win over the Phillies.
Ahead of Spring Training, McCormick spoke with Fox 26's Mark Berman and his role heading into the 2023 MLB season.
"I'm really excited, I'm ready to go. I've been working my butt off this season," McCormick said. "Center field is my job to lose, but you know, again, I got to go into Spring Training like I'm fighting for a spot. This team's really good and I got to keep working hard."
McCormick has the capability to be a force in the bottom half of the lineup and his defense speaks for itself. Despite all the rumors that Houston may try to upgrade at the center field position, McCormick seems confident that it's his job until further notice.
After his recent performances, there is little reason to doubt his logic.
