Houston Astros Give Update on Garcia Following Tommy John Surgery
Houston Astros General Manager Dana Brown gave an encouraging update on starting pitcher Luis Garcia following his Tommy John surgery.
Garcia successfully underwent the surgery on his right elbow and is now expected to miss the entirety of the 2023 MLB season and a majority of the 2024 season.
It's good news for Garcia who suffered his injury on May 1 against the San Francisco Giants.
His timetable for recovery is consistent with that of other Major League pitchers who have undergone the surgery before.
Garcia was slated to be a large part of the Astros rotation, especially following the departure of Justin Verlander to the New York Mets and the loss of Lance McCullers Jr. to start the season due to injury.
Prior to injury, Garcia posted a 4.00 ERA in 27.0 innings pitched.
Hunter Brown and J.P. France have stepped up admirably in Garcia and Jose Urquidy's absence.
Even so, Houston may need to start looking for reinforcements via the trade market if they hope to continue they trend of being World Series contenders.
