Houston Astros Injury Update: Altuve Has Disappointing Rehab Outing Tuesday
The good news for the Houston Astros is that Jose Altuve lasted through his first rehab game at Double-A Corpus Christi.
The bad news is that Altuve went 0-for-5.
The All-Star second baseman, who has been sidelined all season with a fractured right thumb, was inserted in the leadoff spot.
Altuve had started three rehab games at Triple-A Sugar Land -- two at second base and one at designated hitter -- and he went 1-for-13.
It’s not surprising to see Altuve struggling with his timing, That’s the point of the rehab games.
The statistics don’t really matter.
"He hasn't had a bunch of hits, but he feels good," manager Dusty Baker said of Altuve going a combined 1-for-18. "He's going to go to Corpus and spend a couple of days down there. He knows his timing is off a little bit so he wants to be wide open when he gets here and have everything be back to normal."
Altuve is expected to play oner or two more rehab games before rejoining the Astros.
Altuve was cleared for baseball-related drills on May 2 -- six weeks after surgery on March 22.
The fact that he’s playing rehab games this early is a great sign.
