Houston Astros Star Makes Home Run History vs. Texas Rangers
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve claimed another milestone in his incredible career on Tuesday night against the Texas Rangers.
Altuve hit three home runs against the Rangers. It just happened to be the first three-home run game of Altuve’s career.
What makes it more incredible is that Altuve did it in the first three innings of the game.
Yes, Altuve hit a home run in each of the first three innings of the contest, something no Astros player has done before.
The first inning home run was a leadoff shot off Rangers starter Nathan Eovaldi, who was activated that afternoon to start his first game since mid-July.
The second home run, coming in the second inning, was also off Eovaldi and gave the Astros a 4-0 lead.
The third home run, in the third inning, was off reliever Dane Dunning, who is a member of the Rangers’ starting rotation but was removed from that spot to make room for Eovaldi. Altuve’s third home run made it a 9-0 game at the time.
Altuve became the first Astros player to hit five home runs in a two-game span after hitting two in Monday’s game against Texas. He became the fourth player in Astros history to hit multiple home runs in consecutive games. Richard Hidalgo was the last to do it on Sept. 9-10, 2000.
He also became the fourth player in MLB history to hit three home runs in the first three innings of a game.
This has been a historical season for Altuve, despite missing time with injuries. Last month he hit for the ninth cycle in team history when he did against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Also, last month, he became the third Astros player to have at least 2,000 career hits with the team, joining Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell.
