Houst Astros Stars Altuve, McCullers Jr. Put Faith First
Despite the Houston Astros dropping their weekend series to the Philadelphia Phillies, 2-1, there’s a lot more to life than baseball.
Faith and family were the center of attention on Saturday night, April 29, as the Astros celebrated Jesus Christ with music and player testimonials following the team’s loss to the Phillies.
Astros players Jose Altuve and Lance McCullers Jr. both gave personal testimonials following Saturday’s contest with the Phillies, sharing their stories of failures and faith while fully relying on Christ to get them through life.
Christian pop artist Britt Nicole also performed for the Houston crowd at Minute Maid Park for the annual postgame event.
Both Altuve and McCullers are currently recovering from injuries sustained prior to the start of the season and have yet to play in 2023.
Altuve, 32, has a career slash line of .307/.362/.468 with 696 RBI, 279 stolen bases and 192 home runs.
He was injured in the World Baseball Classic and had surgery on his broken thumb on March 22, and the Astros are hopeful to have the second baseman back with the team in June.
McCullers, 29, has a career record of 49-32 (130 games) with a 3.48 ERA (718.2 innings pitched), 800 strikeouts and a 1.25 WHIP.
He first experienced pain in his arm following a bullpen session during Spring Training on Feb. 14, and has slowly been working his way back since that time.
Houston is hoping to have McCullers back in the starting rotation by June as well.
The Astros (16-13) continue a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants (11-17) on Tuesday, May 2, with first pitch slated for 7:10 p.m. CT at Minute Maid Park.
