Jose Altuve is making the rounds through the Houston Astros’ farm system as he pushes to return to the team following a broken thumb in the World Baseball Classic.

Altuve began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, May 12, and spent three games with the Space Cowboys — going 1-for-13 while playing 14 innings at second base and one game as the designated hitter.

Due primarily to the Space Cowboys hitting the road to face Oklahoma City starting this week, Altuve will be moved to Double-A Corpus Christi for the next few games to keep the All-Star veteran in the Lone Star State for the foreseeable future.

The Hooks are slated to host the Tulsa Drillers on Tuesday, May 15 at 6:35 p.m. CT, with Altuve scheduled to be in the starting lineup.

No specific timetable has been set for Altuve’s return to the Astros, but he currently remains ahead of his recovery schedule and will likely be back with the ball club by the end of May.

Stay tuned to Inside the Astros for the latest on Altuve’s push to return to Houston’s lineup as quickly as possible.
