Houston Astros starting pitcher José Urquidy’s first rehab assignment with the Triple-A Sugar Land Space Cowboys on Friday night was a short one.

Urquidy made his first appearance in a game of any kind since April 30, when he left a game against Philadelphia with what turned out to be right shoulder inflammation. He’s been on the 15-day injured list since May 1.

Against El Paso, Urquidy pitched just two innings. He only gave up a hit but allowed two unearned runs.

His first inning was perfect and that included Urquidy handling a ground ball himself to end the inning.

In the second, his leadoff walk to Alfonso Rivas, followed by Jose Azocar’s single, got him in trouble. Azocar tried to steal second, which allowed Rivas to score. But, a throwing error by Sugar Land shortstop Shay Whitcomb helped Azocar score from second base, giving El Paso an early 2-0 lead.

Urquidy then struck out the next two hitters before getting Max Schrock to pop out to end the inning.

Along with the one walk and the two strikeouts, he threw 32 pitches, 22 of which were strikes.

Astros outfielder Yordan Alvarez was supposed to start a rehab assignment on Friday, but an illness forced the Astros to push back his debut. Alvarez has been on the injured list with a right oblique strain since early June.
